Welcome to the Disneyville podcast, episode 44.
Speaker 1:Where we talk about all things Disney parks, disney Cruise and everything in between.
Speaker 2:Hey, you know what, though, with this being episode 44, you know what that means.
Speaker 1:That we've done.
Speaker 2:44 episodes that we are halfway to 88. Cool, just a fun fact there for you. So this might be the most like hold on, I'm born.
Speaker 1:I was born in 89. So I'm thinking did you just forget what year I was born?
Speaker 2:no, you're just being weird this, I think, might be the most requested episode topic. We've had people ask all the time for us to give our tips and tricks for bringing young kids to disney, which is weird because we don't actually even have kids so I don't know why people ask.
Speaker 1:Why would you even ask uh, we talk about our kids all the time we have two wonderful young daughters we do they are currently ages six and three, so that's sort of the age range.
Speaker 2:Most of our tips and tricks are going to be, I would say, really seven and younger, because we'll talk about some baby stuff.
Speaker 1:Yes, it's definitely going to be focused on younger kids, but I want to say this if you're listening and you're like I don't have kids, or I all my kids are way older than that or they're fully grown, whatever, I feel like some of the tips we're going to share today actually apply to many, many people, not just young kids or just babies. So stay tuned. We promise we'll try to entertain you along the way, even if you're not super fully invested in this topic. But you're going to get very specific. So, those that are invested, we got you. We have got some serious, very specific tips and ideas and things we've tried and that worked.
Speaker 2:Yes, and if you know somebody in your family or in your life that is taking kids to Disney, you can send them this episode. We are also going to have a corresponding blog post. It will probably not be live when the episode goes live, but it'll be. It'll be there shortly after.
Speaker 1:It takes us a little time. Give us some time.
Speaker 2:And that blog post will be continuously updated.
Speaker 1:So, even though you know, you might be seeing this two years after we record it. That blog post will be continuously updated as we do more and more. Perfect example is my sister is about to take her family and she's got many, many kids and a varying age ranges from like one to 18.
Speaker 1:And, uh, they've only been once and it was when she only had a couple of kids and it was it was like over a decade ago. So, like, like this is the kind of blog post I or video I would send her and be like hey, here you go. Like this is our hard-earned knowledge yeah from bringing our kids multiple times a year at all ages from three months old on.
Speaker 2:I want to talk about what I have learned thank you, I was like that was a Hamilton reference, okay okay, so our hard-earned knowledge has come from taking the kids from ages three months?
Speaker 1:I don't know.
Speaker 2:I think that was about the somewhere around there multiple times a year.
Speaker 1:Through what six, almost seven years?
Speaker 2:yeah, for the past.
Speaker 1:So we really have done it all. We have stayed at all of the resorts, like we, we really know our stuff when it comes to this. If I were to say I'm an expert on anything, I think this is where I'm an expert and you are an expert. And as we were making this script for today's episode, I was astounded. I was like we have so much knowledge and I don't even mean that in a braggy way, I mean like, like I said, this is hard earned. We had to make a lot of mistakes. Oh my gosh, yeah, we made the mistakes.
Speaker 1:So hopefully you guys don't have to, so this is free knowledge.
Speaker 2:I was dying though, because we kind of started with, like I don't know, five or six things like in a little list, like just a couple of words, and we had a shared note and we're just both tap, tap, tap, tap, tap it away. Paragraphs of stuff.
Speaker 2:I mean it's so much so we're going to try and keep this under an hour, just so that, again, this will be a quick overview. We'll have the blog post. Let's go All right. So we kind of broke it into a couple different things here. So we have logistical tips.
Speaker 1:Probably our most important yes Category.
Speaker 2:Then, which is kind of its own little category here, and then fun ideas for the kids at the very end. Now we could we're not gonna talk about flying with kids, that's you. I mean that could be. It's an entirely different episode. So we're kind of once you like land in orlando, that's kind of where we're starting. So that's just one thing to keep in mind, um, but yeah, so let's go ahead and kind of dive into our little list let's dive in.
Speaker 1:So, logistically, tip number, tip number one order groceries to your resort. No matter where you're staying whether you're staying on Disney property or not, it doesn't matter Order groceries to your resort. I know we've talked about that a lot on this podcast because it's something we do before every trip. Even if it's just the two of us, like we went on that run Disney short weekend, even for that we ordered bananas, like a gallon of water to refill our water. You know little things, um. But also, if you have a diaper aged kit or pull-ups, order diapers and wipes. They're gonna be way cheaper that way. Then you don't have to pack them.
Speaker 2:If you're needing that luggage space for you know other stuff take up a quarter of your suitcase if you try and bring it literally yeah, especially if you're there for a long time.
Speaker 1:Get water, like I said, you could get like a gallon size. You can get there's like those two and a half gallon size with like the little tap on it. You know you can refill your bottles if you need purified water for like formula, like all of those kinds of things. Milk If you've got a kid that needs just whole milk or whatever kind of milk.
Speaker 2:I know some people like you know if your child has an allergy to and you need to have a very specific kind of milk, you can make sure you have the right kind of milk. And we've tried all the again. We've talked about this before, but we've tried Amazon, we've tried Walmart, we've tried a garden groceries. We tried them all. Water butlers Any of them are fine. Use whatever you got, um, but yeah, order groceries. It's going to be your best friend getting out the door in the morning Again. We won't need to go into that. It's obvious. It's a great idea to have them in your room. Every room now has a small beverage cooler, so you don't really need to worry about having a fridge in your room. You used to have to request them back in the day.
Speaker 1:Yeah, all of them have something yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so it's not a lot of room in the fridge in most rooms, unless you have some sort of villa, but it's enough. You know what?
Speaker 1:I mean, yeah, if you have like a villa, then you got like a fridge.
Speaker 2:Exactly.
Speaker 1:But milk. But you can also get, um, uh, what's? Shelf stable milk. So if you're a little leery, technically a beverage cooler like I think you're not technically supposed to put like yogurt, like it's not cold enough. You know that you get to decide how you use it. All right, but technically, um, but they do have.
Speaker 2:Like you can get shelf stable milk and then put it in there to get it a little bit cooler, right, then you're not as worried about that you know, and we always bring water bottles like refillable water bottles, and then, like I said, we get the big two gallon things quick tip that it took me years to figure out. If you get those big two gallon deals that have a little tap built into them, you have to puncture the top because that's why they have a little tap on them and it took me years to figure this out.
Speaker 2:And then like you're pushing it and like it takes forever, and then it has like gulp up air. And then I finally figured out you puncture the top and it lets the air flow through it and it's so easy to fill them up.
Speaker 1:So you got your own little, because the tap water in orlando we got so burned by the water going so slow though, by that, that now I'm usually the one ordering the groceries, I just get a couple gallons instead, because I'm like I know you want to. I forgot you figured it out yeah, but it's way.
Speaker 2:In the parks you can always get water too, but in the rooms it's nice to start out your day, and if you have a full-size fridge you can just stick them in there. You got nice cold water too.
Speaker 1:All right, we're gonna blast through these next two, because we have talked about these very recently in our top 10 hacks for Disney World. For anyone, that was only a few episodes ago.
Speaker 2:So if, if you're planning a trip and you're like you know what?
Speaker 1:Again, that's our harder knowledge and those are tips for everyone on any trip. Definitely go give that a watch or listen after this. Yeah, yeah. So these two mobile order. You can mobile order food at any well, most I think quick service restaurants in Disney world, including at your resorts, and you can pick a time that you want to arrive. That way way you've got your kids with you you can find a table, get settled, sit down and then you get a little message that your food is ready, versus waiting in line to order, then waiting for the food. Like it cuts out all of that and you'll again, I always say this I am always astounded seeing long, long, long lines for the regular ordering lines and then no line at the mobile order and I'm like, why are people there's signs everywhere for mobile order Like why aren't people doing this? Why are people waiting in that line?
Speaker 2:And there's so much time. There is so much downtime when you're standing in a queue for a ride, or there's so much time that's quote unquote wasted. Use that time to be getting your order ready.
Speaker 1:Yeah, While you're waiting in line for a ride beforehand, and again with kids. Time is of the essence, especially once you're you're all cranky, you're all hungry, Like you can plan ahead so that your kids don't get to the cranky stage. You can make sure that you're right. There are things you can do.
Speaker 2:And then, kind of on the back of that, is the mobile checkout. Not every store does this yet, but as you're going around you can be scanning things on the app and you can check out as you leave. You just show your phone. You check out as you're leaving. I think it's World of Disney, the Emporium, a couple others, and so that way again, especially at the end of the night, the lines can be super duper long in the gift shops. You just do the mobile checkout, you show yourself they've got bags right there and you're out the door.
Speaker 1:So that's just one more way to be more efficient. Discount or Disney Visa discount, whatever it will apply that on your phone automatically. So it's it's really well done. It's really easy to use. It's not as hard as you may think.
Speaker 2:Yeah, okay, so now we're getting more into kid, specific things. So, uh, we have. This was a pixie dusted mom.
Speaker 1:Okay, first of all, I need to give her a shout out because she is the queen, truly crowned queen, of taking kids to Disney. That is, her whole channels, like focus, and if you have not discovered her yet, you probably have, if you have kids. If you haven't, you need to give her a follow because you first of all, I have bought so many of her.
Speaker 1:I have bought so many of her recommendations. It's unbelievable and and we'll talk about a couple of like specific products here in a bit, but anyway, um, she really is like the queen. She's the queen and a lot of these things that I've learned over the years some of them I have learned from her. So I wanted to give her credit where credit is due, because there's a lot of time.
Speaker 2:She's amazing. Yeah, you'll come up and you'll be like, look at this. And I'm like, where'd you hear it, pixie dusted mom.
Speaker 1:I was literally watching one of her vlogs yesterday, getting geared up for our trip coming up.
Speaker 2:So, uh, one, uh very specific thing is if you have a kid that is in crib age is called the slumber pod, which is basically a tent that goes over a pack and play.
Speaker 2:It will also fit over a crib, Um, and so, depending on which resort you're staying in, if you request a crib which we'll get to in a second you can request one in your room. It will actually cover it and you can zip it all the way up. You can leave it open a little bit, but it basically makes that crib portion completely dark. So if you have a kid that's in a napping stage and the rest of your family wants to be out, you know, in the light during the day while you're while the younger one is napping.
Speaker 2:It lets that area be very dark or just even at nighttime. Sometimes you know the rest of the family's watching TV, the younger ones already napping or already asleep. It makes that so that the the youngest one can be in their own little area there in a dark little room.
Speaker 1:And we've definitely had ups and downs with the slumber pod. I will say you can pack it, it'll fit in a suitcase. Like it all breaks down, you build it up. I think it just depends on your kid, but I definitely love it when it worked. It worked really well. We finally we are now graduated past that. We're in regular beds, so that enters bed rails. So, as Tyler said, you can request, you can do it beforehand. We always recommend doing it beforehand, just in case.
Speaker 2:Definitely.
Speaker 1:But oftentimes you'll still need to call when you get there and ask for it, like they don't often just have it in your room.
Speaker 2:I don't know why yeah, or you can do, uh, hey, or hey, disney um in your room. Oh yeah, oh my gosh I forgot and that is the best.
Speaker 1:So you can use a little hey disney in the room, request it. But you can request high chairs. We're not sure I can't. I know we were always able to get them in the villas, but I think maybe every resort um, and it's just the standard, like wooden ones, not wildly comfortable or supportive restaurant ones, yeah, but it's nice to have if you need it. Um. But yeah, you can request portable cribs or cribs um pack and play pack.
Speaker 2:That's the portable crib, yeah right, right, but it depends on the resort whether they have the pack and play or the crib. Some have both and you can request, but it just depends on what they have.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and then also bed rails. So now we've entered the era of bed rails, where we're going to need that, um, and it's amazing. So I feel like having those and not having to stress about bringing your own portable crib or pack and play whatever is very, very nice, um they always say it's subject to availability, but we've never had an issue.
Speaker 2:We've had an issue on the Disney cruise line, but not in Disney World. And what's nice about Disney World is, even if one resort is out which I don't, is very, very unlikely there's other resorts they can go to, versus a cruise line, where it's. That's the amount they have, so definitely if you're doing a cruise request it Definitely.
Speaker 1:Request it early. Yes, request it, or I mean before the trip.
Speaker 2:Yeah, request it regardless in Disney World.
Speaker 1:Yeah. So another thing to piggyback if your kid is used to sleeping with white noise, bring a little white noise machine. There's a million out there. You don't have to spend a lot of money. We like ones that also have like a little nightlight built in, so especially if you're going to be doing middle of the night feeding, just be able to tap that where the noise stays on but the light gently comes on so you're not waking up everyone. That is huge. You could also bring an audio only like monitor if you were in a one bedroom villa or something and there it's kind of nice to have.
Speaker 2:We just bring our small one we've had for seven years, that's right, because at home we have a video one, but then when we're traveling it's nice to have one that's just audio, like the one that's like 20 bucks on amazon yeah, that way we can just have something there, so if we're in the other room that way we have a the option of being able to hear a little bit better, and again, that's usually for when they're much younger.
Speaker 1:Once they're a little older, they're so loud you can't hear them.
Speaker 2:Yeah, exactly Okay. Obviously, orlando gets a little toasty, a little sunny. Sunshine State Hats, spf, that's a given. You're probably going to have some favorites already. Don't need to really go into that, but definitely bring your hat. We like the little bucket hats too okay grown-ups too. We like the bucket hats because it kind of covers the head all the way around, but whatever you can get your kid to wear is great reapply throughout the day. I shouldn't have to tell you this.
Speaker 1:You're a grown-up yeah, but I mean that son is no make your husband.
Speaker 2:Make your husband wear spf2, even if just on his face put it on his neck.
Speaker 1:He's gonna get burnt there. I can look at him and be like your neck's getting getting burnt.
Speaker 2:I'm like I put it on this morning and you're like it's 7 PM.
Speaker 1:You reapply or you know you're wearing my. Mine is my shoulders, cause I'll if I'm wearing a tank top or something, I'll I'll be reapplying on my shoulders every hour because the diaper bag or like the kids hanging on my shoulder like it's just always worn off. Why are my shoulders burnt?
Speaker 2:So anyway, hats and SPF, that's a given.
Speaker 1:Yeah, okay, you can judge us if you want. However, I have a strong suspicion 80% of you parents out there hearing this, do what we do, and that is gentle bribery. And I don't mean like, do this and I'll give you this. Okay, that's not really what I mean. What I mean is oh, you're about to have a meltdown, oh, oh, but it's about nothing, and we're in a line and we're trapped. Hey, who wants a sucker?
Speaker 1:yep, that's all I gotta say and we've also entered the land of smarties, because those are also small, they don't melt, they don't get all weird. So having some suckers and smarties in your little bag, I'm just saying it's like our final straw, last yeah card we have to play when we're entering meltdown territory both of our kids are weirdly into having Smarties in their pockets.
Speaker 2:Like you, open up the Smarties, they put them in their pockets and they can just pull out one at a time.
Speaker 1:I get it. It's like control, they've got.
Speaker 2:Control, they've got control over the situation. So like having like a couple of things, a Smarties, like here here's something that they can put in. Then they're no-transcript vitamin c, because you know you're gonna get sick in disney maybe you're not coming back on on sick.
Speaker 1:Get a little bit of, uh, immune health, maybe while you're at it so one thing we've got a little experience with is renting products for your hotel room. So there are a million companies, guys. There's so many companies out there that do it. We've tried a couple I can't think of the name of them. It's all been a great experience. They're all well-oiled machines. At this point I would say, definitely go with one that has some reviews, like, don't go with some tiny one, you maybe save $5, but you're, you don't know. Um, but you can rent anything. Yeah, and when I say anything I mean one of the ones I remember looking at it was when I think Felicity was really young you could rent a full blown like glider chair that they bring to your hotel room, like bottle warmers, nicer high chair strollers of any kind.
Speaker 2:We rented a swing, a baby swing, did we? I just remembered that, yeah, because we were like we were crazy. But why not when they're?
Speaker 1:that age and you're like what are we going to do with them when we're in the room? And they're like not mobile, mobile, but they're incredible, yeah. So there you go.
Speaker 2:You can tell the difference between a reputable company and one that's not probably 30 companies that do this. So talk to your travel agent, do some research. There's so many good companies out there. Yeah, you'll find one. That that's good that again. Look for good reviews. Look for a website that looks legitimate. You'll be able to tell one that you like that has the products that you're looking for.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, and some of them, by the way. Even you could rent toys. So, like again, if you've got a little baby that you know you need a couple of toys for, got a little baby that you know you need a couple toys for, but you don't necessarily have the room to pack, you could legitimately rent just toys.
Speaker 2:Well, and depending on what airline you're flying, I mean, if you're going to spend 65 for a bag. You know it'd be less expensive to rent a toy for a week, you know, yeah, something true, um so one quick side note if you are somebody that goes twice a year or more, the purple tote is kind of a great little option if you don't actually called the Owner's Locker, the name brand and it's these Purple Totes that they will actually deliver to your resort hotel room.
Speaker 2:You just go on their website and you can put in the dates that you're staying in the hotel you're staying in and they'll deliver it, and then you take it back to the bell stand at the end. So if you are somebody that goes, I would say, like twice a year or more, a lot of these big things that you're kind of hauling back and forth stroller fans stroller fans cooling, towels, ponchos just pounds of water bottles, things that take up a lot of room in your suitcase.
Speaker 1:You can leave down there like floaties, like we've left laundry like laundry detergent pods because we were like we always do laundry down there. We'll buy one bag in a grocery order and then we just leave it just less stuff to pack playing cards we have coloring book like a coloring book and crayons yeah, extra sunscreen games like board games, so things that we leave down there.
Speaker 2:So just something very quick to consider, which if you go down there that often, you probably already know a lot of the stuff. Yeah, but just something to kind of keep in mind. There. We really like it. It works out really well for our family to have that.
Speaker 1:Yeah and I I wonder like will we use it as much when our kids are grown? I don't know. Maybe, though, but right now, in this stage, it is so nice. We even have like a couple of bath toys in there that we just leave and they get all excited. I think we bought them in Disney world and we just left them and their little princess bath toy, and they don't have a hole, don't worry, there's no mold.
Speaker 2:I know someone's going to ask yeah, no, they are so excited every time they see them.
Speaker 1:Yeah, Baby care centers One of the greatest amenities that Disney world offers. They are in every park and they have everything you need they're air conditioned, they're clean. There's plenty of places, of course, to change diapers. They have small potties for like kids that are new to the you know potty training. But they also usually have like a little activity area with like a movie playing so you could just take a break with the kids out of the sun.
Speaker 1:Take a break to hamilton, um, but they also have things for sale there that you might need right, pacifiers, bottles, let's say you drop the bottle and then kicked it under something. You're never getting that back. It's happened to us. So things like that that you can buy. They've got like baby food in there, puffs, all that kind of stuff you can buy. They also have microwaves and bottle warmers. I mean everything you could need. They really do have and I just love that they have really thought it through Diapers and wipes. You can purchase pull-ups.
Speaker 2:Everything you could ever possibly want.
Speaker 1:It's wonderful and all four of them are lovely and everybody.
Speaker 2:Every time we've gone in I feel like the cast members they're great cast members in there, yeah, Very helpful, Very, very kind. They're just great.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so another one, and this is very specific. This is what we mean by our hard-earned wisdom. Okay, when you are going in line for a ride, this is something that would stress me out to no end, because I'd be like, what do I do? Like, hold on. We're getting in line, and every time I'd be like, what do I need? What do I need? Do I bring the diaper bag on this one? Is this a longer line? So what I've learned is leave the diaper bag in the stroller, but I usually will have a crossbody bag that's big enough to fit what I may need. So if I'm at a bottle aged baby, I might have a bottle ready to go in there. Um, an extra pacifier, suckers and smarties, of course, maybe a little thing of SPF, some snacks, a granola bar, some crackers. Have that on my person so that when we're waiting in line, anything I may need for the next 30 minutes to an hour or whatever, is on my person. We're not having to lug around a whole diaper bag.
Speaker 2:Right, and so a lot of times like so you're never more than a five minute walk from your stroller. So like say, we're at the land pavilion, we park the stroller, we might plan on doing three or four things in there. Well then, we have a blowout, so then I can always run out to the stroller four things.
Speaker 1:We can always adjust your schedule. Go, do that and then go back to what we were doing, so leave the the, the diaper bag in there.
Speaker 2:You don't need to haul it around. There's just one less thing to worry about. One less thing to worry about, there's three. Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1:Can we go for more? Some people are listening and they do not know Hamilton. They're like what are they talking about? Also, I to add that, having a little bottle of SPF on your person.
Speaker 2:the best time to reapply sunscreen is while you're bored waiting in line. Mobile order SPF.
Speaker 1:Yeah, if you're doing those two things. You're going to be set up for success.
Speaker 2:Yeah, um, speaking of that, though, we also have a little bag that we can pull out of our diaper bag that we use when we go to restaurants, and in that bag, uh, especially when they were younger- we have.
Speaker 1:this was a pixie dusted mom, by the way, was it really? Oh yeah.
Speaker 2:So we have and it's just, it's our restaurant bag. It's got the little plastic placemats which we really like when they're really young. So the ones you just Like sticks on the table, they're the worst with the little things that stick to your hand, but they're the best. But they're the best For right on the table. So they've got the little plastic thing there, We've got crayons, we've got coloring books, we've got uh snacks, We've got a few things that we would use in the restaurant hand sanitizer maybe?
Speaker 2:Yeah, usually like wipes, we usually will have if they're of that age where they can't use like a big fork yet have like toddler fork and spoon.
Speaker 1:Um but nothing crazy, like even snack wise. We might just have something small in there, like a pouch or two, cause it's not, we don't, it's not very big.
Speaker 2:Right, yeah, it's yeah, but that way we can just grab that. That's our restaurant bag for going to sit down and eat. It's ready to go.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and we're not digging back through the diaper bag constantly. That's what, I think, made both of us crazy. We learned early on was having to constantly find things in the diaper bag, so having these separate little things that we've already thought through. That's it. It's the thinking through it. It wasn't even, it was just like, okay, what do we need?
Speaker 2:Okay, so okay, we're going to a restaurant, I need to grab this. Okay, I need this, I need this. It's like restaurant got the bag ready to go Because earlier in the morning or even the night before, your mind is clear, you've got the time to sit through and think through it.
Speaker 1:But, like, if you're running late for a reservation, okay well, I'm adding a new one because of what you just said, and our new one I just added is pack everything. The night before. It took me a while to kind of adopt this, like because we'd just be so tired at the end of the night I'm like I don't want to reset the stroller and repack the snacks and get the water bottles filled. But when we started doing that, oh boy, the morning was so much better, because once the morning comes around, like you said, you're trying to rush out and get out of there. The kids are cranky because they're wanting breakfast, but you're like no, we have a breakfast reservation. Like, just eat a snack. We want you to be hungry. Like we paid all this money.
Speaker 2:You know all of those things and you can't negotiate with them, because they negotiate, they're yeah, they do not understand so yeah, pack it the night before if you can.
Speaker 2:That is huge, yeah, huge so this is one of my favorites. So if you have apple air tags, you can also get the tile brand. There's probably other ones out there, but I like getting the apple air tags and then you can label them with your kid's name. They've got all different ways for your kids to wear them. So whether they're like, whether you have a kid that's a runner, or just you just want to be extra secure, you can attach it to a bracelet. They've got special ones. They even have ones that have like mickey heads and different characters on them. They have ones that you can like tie through a shoelace. You have ones that you can pin to your shirt. They've all these different ways. There's tons of them online. You can find Um, but then you can put that Apple air tag on them. So that way, if they do get lost, if they run away, you've got a way to kind of track them down pretty quickly.
Speaker 2:And of course, disney security is amazing, amazing.
Speaker 1:They will find them very, very quickly yeah, we've helped a lost child once before and it was. It was pretty incredible how well I mean they are trained in this.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yes, very much so, but it's just kind of a nice extra little thing that you're like. Where's little timmy? You can very quickly see me.
Speaker 1:Oh, he went over always running away, I know riding the teacups over there by himself. We're over here, here in Epcot. How did he get to Magic Kingdom?
Speaker 2:Very quick side story. Samantha Brown, one of my all-time favorite travel hosts, has this amazing story about when she took her kids to Disney World and she's like walking around Epcot. And she's like because she was so worried about losing her kids. And she's a travel professional, she's been all over the world, she hosts a TV show and she's like freaking out because she cannot find her son. And then her husband says honey, you're holding him. And she says and that's my story, to tell you that my favorite alcoholic drink in Disney World is the Grand Marnier Slush. I love her. Oh, she's my favorite.
Speaker 1:You're holding him, she's hysterical she is.
Speaker 2:So one of the biggest questions when it comes to traveling with kids is the actual logistics of traveling to disney world with your kids like, from the airport, from the airport to disney world. So we've used all the different services over the years we've done we've done it all.
Speaker 1:You guys express rip we've done.
Speaker 2:Mirrors, we've done. Sunshine flyers also rip, we've done. Oh, that one's gone yeah, uh we've done. Sunshine Flyers, also RIP We've done. Oh, that one's gone. Yeah, we've done.
Speaker 1:I haven't looked into it in a while.
Speaker 2:We have. We've done private transfers with a couple different companies. We've done it all. There's not really any wrong answer. So with Mears, it's a large motor coach. It's very much like Disney's Magical Express. If you remember that from back in the day, you do not need car seats. As a matter of fact, if you fly with a car seat, they will not let you use it on the motor coach. They will make you put it underneath, so you will just have your kid with you on your lap. You'll be in the seat next to you, depending on how old the kid is. So they you will drive them, you know, to your resort hotel. I mean, that's kind of just how it goes. If you want them to be in a car seat, the only really option is to do a private transfer. The minivans used to go to the airport. They do not do that anymore.
Speaker 1:Those are some lift. Yeah, at some point has Uber car seat. We have utilized that a lot. That's probably our most utilized. It can get expensive depending on the time of day. I mean, you know, we've got four, four people, one. Actually, two of them need a car seat, you know what I mean. So it can get pricey, but, um, generally that works pretty well but definitely one of the best that we've done again, also still kind of expensive, but really good as MCO to Disney.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:That one. They're really good. It reminds me of the minivan in a way, where they're really good about having the right car seats you need installed.
Speaker 2:They know how to install them.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so there's some options for you. No-transcript of course you know yeah, okay, bring ziplocs, you guys this is one of my favorite tips just bring them, take over baby. This is one you wrote, this one.
Speaker 2:I was like that's good this is one of my favorite. I don't care if you're a person just traveling by yourself or if you're a family of six. Bring ziplocs. They are one of my favorite travel tools. They, they, they pack flat. Yeah, I bring so many. I've used them for everything. So I bring everything from snack bag all the way up to like the two gallon big daddies. I and I use them for all different kinds of stuff and I never know muddy shoes and you got to go home.
Speaker 1:That's it Two gallons.
Speaker 2:I never know what I'm going to use them for, but I always end up needing them. So, like you got wet bathing suits, you got leftovers from a restaurant. You got a wet toothbrush, you got.
Speaker 1:I don't know. There's just so many things, Just snacks. Snacks Like to be able to groceries, but you know there's always uses for them.
Speaker 2:So bring you know three or four of each size. You kind of stack them inside of each other. They lay flat in your suitcase and I swear you will use them for something on your trip. It is one of my favorite travel tips. Kids aside, bring Ziplocs when you travel.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, okay, well, surprise, surprise, you need to stay hydrated while you're there. So we generally use, like the thermos, fun tain. That's what we use in our everyday life. Um, and those seem to fit in most cup holders when it comes to like strollers, whereas we've had a couple other of the more popular brands and they're a little bit wider on the bottom so they don't fit like even in our travel stroller cup holder. So that was huge. That's, I think, something that you might not think about, but it will affect your trip if they can't use their own little yeah, so the thermos funtanner.
Speaker 2:So there's, I mean, 10 000 different designs. So what I always say is get one, like before they're not super expensive. Get one before your trip and like give it to them right before they go with a character that they love because there's so many different characters, and then they'll be excited to drink water while they're there. So that way your kid stays nice and hydrated and they stay cold like all day. So if you get cold water at the beginning of the day, they're going to stay cold, uh, but that way it's kind of a uh, it's a fun way for them to stay hydrated.
Speaker 2:But here's the other thing If you fly with them, first of all be sure to empty them before you go through security. But the most important thing I can tell you is if you have water in them so you go through security, you fill them with water, you're on the airplane. You need to loosen the lid to release the pressure before you push that button, because if you don't, you're going to push that button and water is going to squirt you in the face.
Speaker 1:That's true for any of the kids' cups. You know what I mean.
Speaker 2:The water pressure builds up as you start to take off, and every time you press that button and it splashes you in the face, everyone in the room next to you gets wet, like it's so release the pressure, then open it.
Speaker 1:Just take it from me and I think another important tip is always remember you're never too far from a walmart or just placing an amazon order to your resort, like if you forgot something absolutely important, you can still get it. I think originally, when we first started going, especially when we first started going, especially when we had our one kid and she was young, I would get so anxious about forgetting something or feeling like I'm kind of trapped on Disney property and I don't have a car. It's 2025 or whatever year you're seeing this. You could Uber to a Walmart. They're not far away. You can place an Amazon order to your resort and get it the next day. There are tons of necessities in the gift shop. Like you have so many options to be able to get exactly the brand of pacifier you need or the, the formula that you forgot to pack. Enough of whatever it is, you'll be okay.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you'll be able to. There are so many apps out there you could. Yeah, you'll, you will get door dash from a.
Speaker 1:That's it. Wait, that makes way more sense, that's it yeah, oh my gosh, my mind just exploded, was it?
Speaker 2:Postmates. Is that one that you can? They have that down there, I don't know no door dash.
Speaker 1:now you can just get stuff from a place and get it right away.
Speaker 2:You can do whatever you need. And then the final thing. We're not gonna delve really deeply into this. One person in your party can wait with kids that are not riding a specific ride If you and your partner want to ride a ride, the people who are riding it can go ride it. They stand in the standard queue, then the person who's not riding it will wait. You switch and then that person does not have to wait in the queue again. No-transcript. Strollers are a very big part of traveling.
Speaker 1:if you've got little kids. This is another pixie mom. Actually this was a pixie dusted dad was it really? Yeah, her husband, he, her husband, he I'm I'm pretty sure it was him. This was years ago. That's what's kind of fun.
Speaker 2:I'm like man we've been doing this years.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and so have they the idea. And I remember telling our best friends this when they went with their I think it was when they only had one kid and they were like that was the best tip ever is large, decent size, but that folds really small. We have one on Amazon, I think about a two pack, and it's what we've used ever since. It's because they fold tiny, but they're big, they're strong.
Speaker 2:You want like an Ikea sized bag, but one that folds up smaller.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, and it's strong, it's not going to break, right? So you can utilize that. When you are about to head out towards the bus, you're like, okay, we're going to exit the park, we're at Hollywood Studios, we're going to exit the park and go wait for the buses. Well, I feel like 30% of the time we start heading out to the buses and the bus is there and so we're running, but now we're like crap, we've got to get the kids out of here and clean this thing up, because you got to fold it down, get everything out of the bottom. We've got cups, we've got trash, we've got snacks. It's just everywhere.
Speaker 1:What we have learned is to use that bag before you even exit the park. So there's no stress. Pull over to the side, put everything that you need to in that bag. Maybe it's the resort mugs from earlier that are now empty, empty water bottles. Go, throw away your trash, like all that stuff. Put it in there, your popcorn bucket, maybe. Then all you're carrying you can fold the stroller up when you're ready. All you're carrying is your diaper bag and then that extra bag, and you don't have to be holding things in your hand. You're dealing with the kids. You need your hands.
Speaker 2:Because, if you don't know, on the buses you have to fold up your stroller. On the boats, most of the time you have to fold up your stroller. There's some boats you don't and some boats you do. And on the Skyliner you probably don't have to, unless it's a double wide. So, depending on your mode of transportation, you're gonna have to fold up that stroller. So it's, you got a lot of moving parts as you're about to get on the transportation. So by doing that, you got your bag, you got your, like you said, diaper bag, stroller, boom, you're on your way, and that is.
Speaker 1:We realized early on the first few years that was one of the most stressful points of our day. Every time was folding down the stroller. And now we're such a well-oiled machine it's it's just not a big deal.
Speaker 2:Yep, and you do it before you even leave the park, so that you can't even see the bus.
Speaker 1:They're not stressed Just don't even let yourself know if the bus is there.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but that that was. That was one of the biggest game changers as far as stress level goes. It sounds maybe a little silly, it's not, man.
Speaker 1:It is such a stress saver. You have no idea.
Speaker 1:Oh okay, stroller fans. They have so many kinds. We recommend ones that have the misting in it, where you fill a little bit of water in it. Any kind of water doesn't matter. The difference between just a fan and a fan with that mist function on is unbelievable. The temperature difference, like it feels so much cooler. We have tried it all. But, yeah, one with the misting to it. They have ones that now attach to your stroller with like the three legs, that kind of wrap around. We'll put one at the top of our stroller, facing us to keep us cool while we're pushing. They'll each have their own. We also have handheld ones, like for our older kid. That's not in the stroller, she can have it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's incredible, I mean that is a game changer if you are going in the heat of summer and you can fill it up with cold water.
Speaker 2:It makes it. It makes a huge difference. Even room temperature water makes a difference. But cold water is great, but yeah, I don't know, we don't have any that also attached to the stroller that I know we, uh, I think I finally bought one but.
Speaker 1:I don't think it's in the purple tote, so we might need to actually bring it this time.
Speaker 2:Okay, because that I need to check but yeah, the ones that wrap around because I feel every stroller is a little bit different, so like the ones that have clips are always kind of weird.
Speaker 1:The clip is not great, yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but the windy three legs, like that's the way to go because you can attach it in so many different ways, but yeah, having one that faces mom and dad as you're pushing the stroller.
Speaker 1:That is a game changer. You need to also be feeling good because you're doing a lot of work. And I would say, if you're packing your stuff and you're going in July and you're like we don't like these fans are taking up a lot of room, bring them. Taken up a lot of room, bring them. It is so hot. It will be your favorite thing you own on that trip. I am telling you it is worth the space it may take up in your luggage above so many other things. It is worth the space.
Speaker 2:Quick note about strollers. Now, this is if you already own a stroller, you're not going to change it, but just if you're in the market and you're thinking about buying a stroller.
Speaker 1:Or maybe you're going to rent one down there, or maybe you're going to rent one.
Speaker 2:If you can. If you're looking for a double stroller, an inline stroller is so much more preferable to a double wide stroller because it's just so much easier to get through crowds. I mean, it's so much easier to get through doorways and it's so much more easy to maneuver around. Highly recommend the inline versus the double wide. If you can swing it somehow, we have the upper baby vista. Love it, it's, it's that's amazing.
Speaker 1:We're now right now, anyway past that right, because our oldest just doesn't need a stroller. Yes, we did. We rented one in disney springs when we were there, just for that day yes and um boy.
Speaker 2:That thing's uncomfortable I was just that, so I was gonna get to that here in a minute. So we'll get to that in a second. Okay, um, but if you are in the market for a travel stroller, I will recommend the Bugaboo Butterfly. Oh my gosh, we've tried, cause we've. We've traveled all over the world with our girls. We've done so many different travel strollers. This is the best one.
Speaker 1:Oh, it is.
Speaker 2:It, baby. It fits in a an overhead compartment. It folds up so well. But you can. You can push it around with one hand so easy, because other ones you have to have, like both hands, you can't control we have the gb pocket and that one folds.
Speaker 1:Just as small, right?
Speaker 2:not as easy to maneuver, really bumpy on like and it kept like ripping the fabric as you were folding it up. This one is so much more maneuverable. Like I said, you can do it with one hand. It's so easy. You can literally fold it up with one hand. It's so fast.
Speaker 1:That's what we'll be traveling with the next time we go here soon. Yes, so if you're in the market and it has a little bit more bells and whistles than the GB pocket, like there was a little more space underneath for storage.
Speaker 2:It lays down a little bit.
Speaker 1:The actual umbrella canopy is much bigger and better. It's amazing.
Speaker 2:It's great. So, anyway, if you're in the market, those are our recommendations. Okay, a couple more very quick things Always, always, always, put the rain cover on, so travel with a rain cover, I mean if there's 0% chance.
Speaker 2:You probably don't have to bring it, but even if there's half a chance, there's always half a chance of rain in Disney World. Put the rain cover on, because half the time we go in thinking it's not going to rain, and then it does, and then your stroller is wet and then your kid doesn't want to get in it, and then you're carrying them and it's hot.
Speaker 1:And then you have to go buy a beach towel to dry it, which I remember.
Speaker 2:And, if you don't know, kids are a thousand degrees when it's hot outside and if you're holding them it's like holding a ball of sun, and so it is so hot, so put it over. It keeps everything dry. But here's another, even almost more important thing Every time you park the stroller, put the umbrella part over it, because it gets so hot the canopy, down the canopy yeah, it gets so hot in that stroller.
Speaker 2:The metal buckles all that kind of stuff, even if you're at an age where they don't even use that. Those buckles the plastic. It's so hot. It does so every time you park it. Cover it up A will help with the rain, even if it just sprinkles, but B it just keeps it cooler in there, so that way when your kid sits back down it's not so hot in there.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that is one of the biggest tips and we've learned all of this the hard way. And for when everything else fails and you're just, you just need it. You can bring a phone holder. There's so many different kinds. They could clip onto the stroller, could clip on, it could just lean against it at a restaurant table for when you're like you know what, we're going to, let them watch a little bit of Sesame Street or whatever, so that we can have 10 minutes of peace.
Speaker 2:We're asking so much of these kids. I mean, it's hard for adults sometimes, and a lot of times you, you know, if you're up at seven o'clock in the morning, six o'clock in the morning and you're trying to go till 10 pm, these little even with a nap in between, it's a lot it's a lot to ask of these kids, and so sometimes at the end of the night you're like okay, you sit in the stroller, you relax you relax.
Speaker 2:You can sit here, you can watch elmo, you can watch you know whatever, and just enjoy. Or even sometimes we'll just clip it on the side if our kids like sleeping at night and we'll just play lullabies.
Speaker 1:You know what I mean so they can just hear it. They can just hear it. So when they were younger, yeah, we have a couple that we love.
Speaker 2:That are. You know, they fold up real small, they take up no room. You can put your uh, your phone clipped into the stroller and they can just relax at the end of the day yeah, that's our ace in the hole truly.
Speaker 1:Like I said, suckers and smarties really the phone is the ace in the hole that is our final straw.
Speaker 2:Like you, the biggest thing is to wait, wait, wait, because if you give in too early, that tool is not going to work when you need it you gotta wait until that is your last option yeah, we've also learned that.
Speaker 1:So now let's talk about the fun ideas, things we've done with the kids. A lot of these are completely free generally and just some tips about like fun ideas, like you said, to do with the kids, like you said, like I said I don't know, like we said, like we together said Okay. So this one is newer to us and I want to try it, and it's called sticker treating and it's the idea that you, you can have, like each kid could have a little notebook. They could decorate it before they go if they want whatever. And then cast members so many of them have stickers, yeah, like mickey mouse stickers, you know, disney ones and so they could ask for a sticker politely and start building up their own little sticker collection in this notebook yeah, and a lot of times.
Speaker 2:yeah, the cast members just give them out and they don't really have anything to do with them, but having like okay, this is my sticker notebook, like that's such a cute idea.
Speaker 1:You could even do it within your autograph book. I guess Like, why not Sure?
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Or combine it and do it for both, like have a notebook and use it for both.
Speaker 2:But the difference is that the autograph book, if you're buying a Disney autograph book, it's pretty and not waste the pages in your autograph book, but yeah. So one other thing about that, though, is it's we've had some. This happened a couple of times recently. Yeah, older kids, probably, I don't know eight to twelve, twelve, yeah, I don't know kids ages, I can't tell. You were a teacher, you can tell I'm like that kid was 16. You're like they just must bring them with them. And they're like do you want some stickers? I'm like that's so cute.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it happened a lot on the cruise especially, but I feel like that would be something cute to do in the parks too, like pixie dusting. So if you have pixie dusting, younger kids yeah.
Speaker 2:If you have slightly older kids and of course, our girls are like yeah, okay, you're a cool big kid, it was adorable.
Speaker 1:And you could get a big old pack of stickers on Amazon for probably under 10 bucks Disney stickers, that's it. They could pick them out and I remember one of them was like you can have a couple and Gigi was like it was so cute. So that's just a cute, really cute idea. Love that, yeah, yeah the hub grass in Magic Kingdom.
Speaker 2:They've got two in Epcot. They've got the one over by I wouldn't call it Mouse Gear, the one outside, what am I going to call it? Oh yeah, Creations, Creations.
Speaker 1:They have another new one that we haven't been to. I just saw, ooh, I know, so we'll have to try it out in Epcot. Epcot is like the hub. They also have one inside by the exit of Mission Space, actually right by the Creations one, yeah, if you think about it. So Epcot has really done a great job and I'm like they've added so many play spaces and the kids all love it. I'm really hoping they'll bring some to Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom. That would be huge.
Speaker 2:And then every resort has them too. So great place. I mean, kids just love playgrounds. They love playgrounds News. I know you're in Disney World and you're probably thinking like let's not waste time on the playground, but kids need to get their wiggles out. Even still, they're not wiggling.
Speaker 1:Think about this. And this took us a few years to realize they're not getting their energy out because they're sitting in a stroller. I mean they're walking, okay, no-transcript with it. They're doing all these new lands.
Speaker 2:Maybe they'll have like, does Animal.
Speaker 1:Kingdom have one Well, the Boneyard I love, and that I don't know what they're going to. Oh my gosh, that one I'm really sad about.
Speaker 2:Oh, OK, my goodness Well. So when you are at Epcot or your resort, enjoy the playgrounds everywhere else. I guess you're on your own.
Speaker 1:OK, well, it's still open at Hollywood or at Animal Kingdom for now, in the dinosaur area Pin trading.
Speaker 2:Pin trading is something that we are just more recently into, but our older daughter, who's only six, just fell in love with it. Fell in love with the idea immediately was like yep, this is who I am now.
Speaker 1:I'm a pin trader. I love it, I'm into it. I'm a pin trader by trade. So I used to feel intimidated by pin trading and I don't mean like going up and, but I'd always heard like, don't get the cheapy pins and trade those, because then you're watering down the supply for everyone else. So we recently did the case of the kingdom tour, which, if you're interested in our thoughts on that, if we think it's worth the money, et cetera, we'll uh the we'll. It was a few episodes back, but we can also link. If you're watching on YouTube, we can link the video version. So we learned on there that Disney generally plans for that and so at the end of every shift or closing time, whatever any pin boards, anyone that's got any pin trading, they have to remove any that are not Disney specific Right.
Speaker 2:Non-canonical.
Speaker 1:Yeah, not Disney specific, but like non-Disney pins, like official Disney pins, right. So they replace at the beginning of their shift any of those non-Disney ones with Disney ones that the company Disney is providing, right. So I don't feel as bad because, if you imagine, the cheapest pins you can find at Disney are, like I don't know, $12.95. If you were to buy some of those, or even in the packs the packs are expensive at Disney and then trading those, it hurts. It hurts because they're so expensive, whereas you can buy cheaper packs that your younger kids can trade for, like pins that are actually on a pin board yeah, you know what I mean, and so that's that's it.
Speaker 1:It's built into the cost. Disney expects that, and so it makes me feel a little less bad doing that, because I used to not want to, because I'm like I don't want to be the one that's like watering down the supply that's why they're charging 20 for a 12 cent pin. Yeah, I know so anyway, that made me feel better about it, but it's. You might be surprised by how much your kid will like it.
Speaker 1:Having their collection of pins they're going to trade and then spending time in gift shops yeah people cast members just standing there will sometimes have like a little thing on their bag and again.
Speaker 2:It's sort of to trade them having their own autonomy to pick out what they want yeah, without, and they don't have to spend money you know I'm like yeah, you get to pick out whatever pin you want. Sometimes I'm like I wouldn't have picked out that one.
Speaker 1:That one looks way cooler. But you pick out whatever you want. I'm like no, that one is super cool, that one's real, that one's real.
Speaker 2:But if that one makes you happy, then I guess that's fine. This is just a really quick one. You just mentioned this the other day and it's one of my favorite things. I don't know who even said it. Oh, it's like a random Facebook post. Yeah, if your kids are upset, take them outside or put them in water, and I'm like that has been so simple, it's so true.
Speaker 1:I'm like just the other day, our kids were like fussing at each other and I took them outside and they were fighting about something else, but anyway yeah.
Speaker 2:But anyway, just even when you're in Disney, I'm like just getting them. I'm like, if they're like, put them in the pool, but I'm like they're just that's just great advice.
Speaker 1:That's just like. Well, there's like water areas in Disney Springs.
Speaker 2:There's the Moana journey of water. There's like.
Speaker 1:If they're getting fussy, like, get them out of the room. That is huge. That's just a good life advice, probably for any of us yeah, take me outside or put me in water. Scavenger hunts this was a newer discovery of ours a couple of years ago and we both love it. So we learned that a lot of the Disney resorts have scavenger hunts. You just ask the concierge or the front desk and if they have one, of course they'll give it to you and it's usually resort specific so you can walk around the resort and find the things.
Speaker 2:If you're having a resort day or just a low key hour or two, so fun, that's one of the great things to do with, like your older kids while maybe the younger one is napping, one of the parents can take the older one out and go do that like so fun and you're out of the room for a bit. That's it. We've also found them on etsy.
Speaker 1:They're like all kinds of, and usually they're like teachers pay teachers. If you know that site, that one is a good one too they're usually like a dollar 99 or something like that.
Speaker 2:We'll buy them before we go and then they're just pdfs you can either just use on your ipad, you can print them out, whatever and bring them with you, um, but they have park specific ones, they have resort specific ones, there's all kinds of ones for different ages, ones that's just like a picture if they can't read yet you know what I mean that people have thought of it all exactly so.
Speaker 2:They're like just little things and it's just kind of like especially someplace, maybe like epcot and world showcase. Maybe your kids isn't, you know, it's not going to be as excited walking around world showcase.
Speaker 1:So there's things for them to look for and have a scavenger hunt yeah, that that is a huge one world showcase, because again there's a little bit for them to do, but not a crazy amount. The kid caught how did we not mention kid caught? Oh my gosh, yeah, let me add that to the list. I feel like places like world showcase. That is the move, I think one trip and I might do it again this next trip. I made them each like a little packet. Now the younger one in that packet was all scribbled on whatever, but for our older one I mean, she loved that pad. There were some coloring there, like there's so much you can find online, so much of it you can just find for free, print it out, staple it ahead of time. They're so excited.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's so cute. You can do it on the plane too, to get excited while on the way too yeah. So yeah, they also have official Disney-sanctioned ones, obviously at the uh epcot but, the kid caught wanted little postcards that you can get, you can color and each country they have them and they're free you get a little ziploc bag that goes with them um it used to be sponsored by zip ziploc.
Speaker 1:It's no longer sponsored it. Doesn't say it anymore oh man um, they have the little adventure book in ziploc was like we can't keep up with the demand didn't?
Speaker 2:uh, collie river rapids also used to be sponsored by ziploc, because you could put your stuff in the stuff, so they didn't get all wet Anyway. So there's all kinds of little things in the parks like that as well, little programs, and a lot of them are free.
Speaker 1:Dory has a little book in the Seas Pavilion yeah, it's free, right when you get off the Finding Nemo ride, they're right there. Or if you're just in the pavilion, you'll find them. There's stickers. It's so cute. Our kids look forward to doing that every single time In Animal Kingdom. If you go back to Rafiki's Planet Watch, they have well no, it's anywhere. We just did it heavily in Rafiki's. Yeah, you can get the little adventure adventures. What is that called Guide? I was just looking at pictures of that today, but there's things to do in every area of the park and the kids loved it, oh my gosh. And they can get like a sticker or a stamp on each page to prove they did it, and I think at the end you can like earn a prize or something.
Speaker 2:Yeah, absolutely. One of my favorite things that we've ever done is we bought our older daughter a little digital camera, so we started with one. I think it was actually a gift, maybe from someone else, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2:And it was like, uh, like a little unicorn on it and I've seen a lot of kids with it. So it's a pretty popular little camera, but you can find them. I'm sure they're elsewhere too, but it she loved that camera and so when we were on vacation she would take all these photos and videos and all kind of stuff, and so I would always back them up, and so I've got them all now. But it's one of my favorite things to see these pictures and videos, and as she got older I got her a slightly nicer one, I think it was maybe 45. It was not a very expensive camera and I mean don't get me wrong the the photos are not very good. The video is not very good. It says it's 4k. It's not 4k.
Speaker 2:I don't even think it's I don't know how they're, like, legally allowed to say I don't know it's, it's, it's not, it's bad, but she loves it and one of my favorite things is just like seeing it through her eyes. It is what like she's, she'll get so excited. Oh, I need my camera, I need my camera.
Speaker 1:So getting that is like she's like sat and filmed the whole ride once before.
Speaker 2:I'm like she's taking after daddy, but just it makes her so happy. And then I love, like the things that she takes pictures of. I love, yeah. So just a little thing, just to kind of go back. It's kind of like how, when we were kids, we would have like a disposable camera and it would have like 24 exposures. You know what I mean.
Speaker 1:This is kind of the updated version of that, but it's got, you know, a thousand exposures, yeah, and it's just, yeah, it's priceless. The footage is genuinely priceless.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so highly recommend that if you have a slightly older kid.
Speaker 1:Another tip is to take pool time, take arcade time, all at your resort. They're there and I feel like again, early on we didn't do that as often and lately we have been way more intentional about it, because it's fun, it adds another layer of something to do. You're already paying to stay at this resort.
Speaker 2:You might as well enjoy the resort too, you know yeah, honestly, my one tip when it comes to toys if you're bringing toys into the park, if you're flying with toys, if you whatever, don't bring stuff with a lot of little pieces. Yeah, that's my biggest tip. We've done so many different things over the years and so many times, if there's a lot of little pieces, they just get everywhere, even if they're just playing with them in the room. But if you're playing with on the airplane, like, they'll get everywhere and you're trying to pick them up on the ground.
Speaker 1:They're in the seat, yeah.
Speaker 2:Quick, quick side story. This last trip we just went on we went to the M&M's store and, if you don't know, m&m's are pretty small. We let our girls get a little cup of M&M's. Now Jessica God love her had the wherewithal to make sure that our younger daughter only had a few M&Ms in her cup when she handed it over on the airplane.
Speaker 1:Well, and I think I gave it to her in a Ziploc as well, like.
Speaker 2:I also had the wherewithal, the lid wasn't very strong.
Speaker 1:I was like, I'll put it in Ziploc, so if she dropped it still, but she gave our older daughter her cup of M&Ms.
Speaker 2:Now, it wasn't a big cup, it was about this big. If you're seeing the video version here yeah. She doesn't have it for 30 seconds, drops the entire thing on the airplane floor.
Speaker 1:It made the most ridiculous noise.
Speaker 2:But that's not even the best part. So all of her M&M's. She was so sad, I felt so bad.
Speaker 1:We figured it out, we got, so stole some from the younger kid.
Speaker 2:She was yeah, so she was fine. Now, if you don't know, when you land an airplane, the airplane lands and then they slam on the brakes and all of the m&ms go screeching to the front of the airplane like plinko. Just, I mean all, just I mean a million m&ms go all the way to the front. Now we're in the back I swear to you, everyone on that plane was cracking and you could see heads from the back where we were all the way, looking down at their feet like what's going on down there?
Speaker 1:even the flight attendants are looking down prior to this were cracking up because they had seen it all I was almost in tears.
Speaker 2:It was like michael scott's wine bottle when he was watching sweeney todd. You could just hear it going from row to row to row and it was just like a thousand marbles. So bad.
Speaker 1:We tried, we tried our best to clean it up.
Speaker 2:I'm like my only thought is like well, at least they'll pool all in the front, so it'll be easy to scoop them all.
Speaker 1:Oh my gosh, you guys. It was so many m&ms, I was so much so put them in a ziploc. That's where this, or just don't give them m&ms on your older.
Speaker 2:Do not give them m&ms on an airplane. Give them one hershey, I don't know, just don't give them something with a lot of little pieces.
Speaker 1:Oh my gosh, if I all right, well here here's one toy that does have a lot of little pieces no, not really, but there's a solution. So. So we recently got the kids actually one of them got it for her birthday and then got the other anyway a Yoto player, but it's the mini Yoto player and it's basically this little analog thing and I say that because it's like screen-free, but you get cards that you can buy and they have tons of Disney ones and everything else, and it'll play songs and music and you stick the card in and play that and stories.
Speaker 2:That's the biggest thing Songs and music stories?
Speaker 1:Yeah, and they can. They figure out, like our three-year-old figured out how to use it. She knows how to use it better than I do, but anyway, they can skip. There's different tracks for different stories and songs. There's volume you can plug your headphones into it. They love theirs so much.
Speaker 1:But the problem became very quickly that they would only have a couple cards and they had like a little case, but the cards were everywhere. They were all over the airplane floor. This is the same trip and so pixie dusted mom I'm sorry. Anyway, she had shown this hack where you buy these like stickers with like a little circle on them and you stick them on the back of them and then loop like you could do a keychain or like something to connect it all, so they're all connected to the ring and then you connect that to your actual yodo player. You can leave them on there and still stick the cards in. It's incredible. So I just literally did it was it last night or two nights ago? Put all their cards on the thing and I'm like, oh yes, it's all one piece, they can't fall down like beautiful. So we highly recommend the mini Yoda player. The kids love them. They still every single day, every car ride, they're grabbing it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and at night they'll just listen to stories in their bed.
Speaker 1:Like.
Speaker 2:I mean some of the cards play music, but a lot of them it's just they're just listening to stories, that they just love them so much.
Speaker 1:I know, I thought they would like it. I did not expect them to. You know, three months on or two months on, still be using it every single day.
Speaker 2:And it's something again, that's not a screen, which is so nice.
Speaker 1:It's so nice to have different options.
Speaker 2:So I think that's it right. That's all we have. But I think our biggest tip is to be patient, to know that whatever you have in your head, it's going to be different. Things are going to change. You got to be willing to change on the fly. Things are going to change as you go throughout the day. The plans are going to change. Just be willing to go with the flow and know that, no matter what, you can still have a great trip even if things don't go to plan, and you're still going to make amazing memories yeah, and sometimes you.
Speaker 1:I feel like oftentimes, when I'm getting heated or impatient with the kids, you're the calm one, and then vice versa. That's not always the case, but I feel like generally it is. And having each other to remind each other like, hey, it's going to be a good day, it's okay, we're going to move past this moment, this meltdown, this whatever. Let's clean this up, let's do whatever, let's take a beat and then let's restart. Because I think it can be really easy this is my own problem.
Speaker 1:It can be really easy to have the day start poorly and then feel like that's just the whole day and you can't you almost like can't mentally get out of that. Like bad mood you're in or the impatient mood, but you can. And so, yeah, you're right, like being patient, taking a beat, like taking a five minute, like walk away from the kids I mean, like leave them with the other parent, whatever it is. You need to cool yourself down Because you know, at the end of the day, this is your vacation and their vacation and you want everyone to enjoy it and you want to enjoy it too. So trying to calm yourself down is easier said than done, but reminding yourself like none of this. Is that big of a deal? Yeah, it's okay.
Speaker 2:Yeah, again, easier said than done I know there's been times just where you get. You get very frustrated, but just know you'll get through it. It'll still be fun and you'll still have memories and you know you're probably going to want to go back.
Speaker 1:And you probably won't even remember those like a bad moments. That's the reality.
Speaker 2:Very, very, two quick, very, very quick plugs we each. Funny enough, I have a very, a brand new website that's coming out. It's going to be out here in the next few weeks and I have an entire page of our child travel essentials that's going to be on there. You're going to have a link as well for your Disney child travel essentials.
Speaker 1:Yeah, anything that we talked about in this episode, I will link on my Amazon storefront. So if you're watching the YouTube version, I will put the link below so you can see all of it together. Yeah, because there are some things that are like. I've always had a kids travel page on my Amazon storefront, but I'm going to make one specifically for Disney because I do think there are some things that are specific to Disney that we always use.
Speaker 2:So if you heard heard us describe something specific, I'll have it linked on there if you're curious, I'll have it all basically the same things on my new website, which is going to be tylerbrowncom, which I'm very excited about. It's not there yet, but I also have a lot go there. Yeah, it's not there, it's not ready yet um, but then I also have things like I just wrote a whole blog about flying with children, so a lot of travel tips and tricks, yeah, all kinds of stuff. So that'll be coming out here soon.
Speaker 1:So we asked you guys on our Instagram, as we always do, which is Disneyville podcast over there, what your guys's top tips and hacks for bringing little kids to Disney are, and I peeked at a few of these earlier and some of them I'm like, oh my gosh duh, they're so good, oh man, there's a lot of responses.
Speaker 2:This is great.
Speaker 1:Okay, so AR Morgan 90 said straps for cups and bowls to the stroller. Remember that era of them throwing? Yeah, and yes, that is huge. I didn't think about it because we've been out of that stage for a little while. But yeah, yes, they're on Amazon. They're not very expensive, but that is a game changer because then inevitably, when it either falls off or they throw it off, it's just dangling on the stroller and not rolling away. Yeah, you know, we did it for snack cups. I remember their sippy cup or bottle whatever.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and then, on that kind of same vein, having the uh, the, the pass fire clips to pass fire, baby, oh my gosh.
Speaker 1:Um, oh, hold on, hers wasn't done, Sorry. Character meals to meet friends. That's a great tip because waiting in line for the characters, those character lines, can be crazy. But if you can, it's obviously a little more expensive. But in the interest of time you can do a character breakfast or a character meal. They can meet a bunch and you're also eating and you're not in the heat, like that's huge Four or five characters at a time. And satisfy that, like itch, they have to meet characters and not have to wait in so many lines.
Speaker 1:While you're eating, while you're eating, yeah, and then to souvenir shop at the end of the trip. That's a great tip, and I'm not sure exactly why you mentioned it, but for me, in my mind, what you mean is if you buy them toys right off the bat and then, anytime you're in the store, you're like they're like now I want this, now I want this. And you're like now I want this, now I want this. And you're like if you tell them like we're only going to shop for stuff at the very end of the trip, so then they can spend this time every time thinking about what they might want to get oh yeah and then on the last day or whatever, that's when they actually could get it that's why that's a
Speaker 2:I'm put taking that one, because there's always so many things they want and they're like well, I know, I want that well, you already, you know if go ahead, I say if they've already like no, you already bought this. And then they find something later in the trip that they want, which is definitely going to happen.
Speaker 1:And the other thing if they're a little bit older, giving them an allotment of money, like a Disney gift card and maybe they've earned it, or maybe it's a surprise or a birthday gift, whatever but having that set amount of money, money, so when they're older they can be like okay, well you've it up like yeah, yeah, absolutely. Um. So laystone underscore said bring grandparents. We've done that, definitely done that, especially when they're younger, that is no, at any time.
Speaker 2:It's huge, um. So tiffany byram has a couple things here. Rent two single strollers for two kids sounds dumb, but it has saved so many fights between our three and four year old. Also, that way you don't have to break it down on the skyliner. So again, if you have a double wide you have to break it down um, also Skyliner. So again, if you have a double-wide, you have to break it down. Also, more storage and then Kingdom Strollers is the best. So that's one I've heard a lot about is Kingdom Strollers. We've done a lot of theirs in the past. I know my agents have booked a lot of them in the past.
Speaker 1:Molly Joyner said buy as many cup holders as Like. The beauty of the stroller is storage Not having to carry a backpack on your back. You can put it underneath.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Not having to carry around your cup, you can put it in the cup holder. So yeah, Like with our travel stroller, we bought extra um snap on.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:So that way we had a cup holder they have. So yeah, definitely consider that. Look into if your stroller you have can have extra cup holders.
Speaker 2:It's really nice yeah, I mean it's storage for for them and for us.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and you always end up with like a water bottle.
Speaker 2:Each you end up with maybe a coffee cup, like get yourself soda daniel hoff underscore said walmart plus delivery of diapers and wipes saves a ton of room in the suitcase again absolutely that that can take up so much room in your suitcase. So just bring enough for your flight all the way to the end of the day, just in case the delivery is late in the day, and then get the rest when you're there.
Speaker 1:Yeah, miss Haley Lynn said the limit. So many people first of all mentioning bringing tons of snacks for young kids. But this is my favorite way it was worded the limit does not exist when it comes to the amount of snacks to bring along. It doesn't exist. And you know what? Every time we pack that little snack bag, most of those snacks are gone by the end of the park day. It's it's truly crazy.
Speaker 2:Carolina on my mind said watch Pixie Dust and Mom videos.
Speaker 1:There you go. See GinaZ0724 said have no expectations on your day. There's a lot to see and do and it can be a lot. Maybe that's the healthiest viewpoint, like, have some things planned but basically have no expectations, just ride the wave of the day, because things will occur. Like you know, you're walking down main street and then the dapper dancers singing. Well, you are going to go do this, but you're going to stop and enjoy that and that's pushed this back. And not to be stressed about that and just ride the wave of the day I think is the move.
Speaker 2:And even if you're going with a group of adults, that's true.
Speaker 1:I mean, oh yeah because, please, there's little tiffs, jealousies, rivalries. That was the office.
Speaker 2:Oh duh. Molly Toner, underscore 91, said go before three Free is beautiful. So yeah, if you have a kid that's on the edge of that age range and you're trying to figure out should we go now or go later. Under the age of three is free.
Speaker 1:So you and you know how expensive those tickets are. Yep, that is not a joke, oh my gosh. Okay, so this is a tip that I actually think is a great one. So Chelsea Kuhn said bring your actual full stroller so toddler can rest, don't bring a compact travel stroller. I agree with this. If you have a kid that is going, that you're expecting and hoping will nap in the park, bring your Mac Daddy strollerroller, as we call our up a baby vista.
Speaker 2:I call it can lay, I call it the beast the beast yeah.
Speaker 1:When it's got both, when it's double yeah. Now we have got a toddler that generally is skipping a lot of naps, so we would probably go back to the room to nap if we did it, but we're not expecting her to nap in the parks. I mean, that would be amazing, but probably not either one of our kids.
Speaker 1:I don't think it's happened much well, but when they, when they were younger, like baby, like yes, right, right, we're kind of past that stage. So I feel like for us, the travel stroller works great because we're not needing her to nap. But yes, if you are hoping for a park nap, you might just bring your reel. Or if you're renting a stroller, rent one of the really nice ones that do it's way more comfortable.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's a great tip. We've done both, I mean, and it just is different eras of your life. Yeah, I've, I've been the dad that's carrying the, the 50 pound double stroller, and then right now I'm in the era where I'm carrying my little travel stroller. So just ebbs and flows. Several people have, uh, I'll, I'll, I'll highlight one here, but several people have mentioned um, to buy bubble machines on Amazon.
Speaker 1:Um because there's there your kid's going to want a bubble machine so expensive in the park. We've done it a couple of times and every time.
Speaker 2:I regret it. Yeah, so that's fighting for a cure said by bubble machines online on Amazon, uh, and bring stuffies um to help interact for character meets, but then also, uh, Cassandra grass at by bubble machine and refills from Amazon, Cause they only come with a certain amount of bubbles.
Speaker 1:Tay Fairborn said buy the bubble wand day one of the trip. So if you're going to buy it in the park, buy it early so they can utilize it.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:It's so much fun, like there is something magical about like walking down, let's say, main Street or after Fantasmic I always think of Fantasmic when it comes to like light up, nighttime toy things Because I feel like the lights, the sound, the like bubbles as you're walking through and the kid's just holding it it's not even my kid, it's just some kid it's just so fun and I feel like it adds to the atmosphere of just like fun and whimsy and you're just at the happiest place on earth, you know most magical place on earth, whatever. So, yeah, definitely, if you're going to do it, bring it out day one or buy it day one of the trip so they can enjoy it the entire trip.
Speaker 2:Same with the balloons, If you're going to buy a balloon you're going to do it. If you're going to spend okay, $30 now they're so expensive. If you're going to buy a balloon, do it day one, so at least you get a week's worth of use out of it.
Speaker 1:Ours always end up asking for it the last day and we're like no nice, end up playing with it in the resort. So, like in the hotel room, they love it, they'll play with it for hours. But the other thing is, if you are buying a balloon, I'm just going to tell you right now you're going to tie it to the stroller for the day. Don't bring it back with you on other park days. It's going to drive you nuts.
Speaker 2:It'll drive you nuts the face Like we usually get it day one, as we're leaving.
Speaker 1:And then it's just in the hotel room and usually we just don't get them.
Speaker 2:Jenna Lassiter said I always pack some Mios to flavor that nasty Disney water for the kids.
Speaker 1:Yeah, there's that, the like squeezable. That's genius, and then they'd be again, like you said, more excited to drink water and stay hydrated. We always do the thing where we ask how old are you, and they'll be like six or three. I'm like all right, then you need to take six giant sips or three giant every time, versus, like drink some water and they just drink one sip and like not at least three, right, yeah, and we always bring um.
Speaker 2:Oh, what are those? The? The packets called um.
Speaker 1:Oh, like any of those hydration packets, yeah, but what are the ones that we liquid IV? I mean, we've tried a million Pedialyte.
Speaker 2:Pedialyte packets yes, those are really good too.
Speaker 1:They have powder versions, if you didn't know, of Pedialyte.
Speaker 2:Yeah, those are good to bring for your kids too, because if they're, I mean they get them really hydrated. They're expensive so you can find them on clearance. Buy them, but they're great for keeping your kids really hydrated.
Speaker 1:They have differing, like the one we get is like the Advanced Care Pedialyte brand too, but the advanced care, whatever. That's what we brought to Egypt with us when everyone else was dehydrated and we were we were fine.
Speaker 1:Okay. Nicole Crawford, 10, said the solar buddies sun cream is the only way we got sunscreen on my niece going around Walt Disney world, so we tried that on this last trip, but I need to keep trying it, cause I feel like I haven't got the hang of it. But it's. You can refill this little contraption called a sun buddy. It's on Amazon and it has this roller ball and this like foam around it and you can kind of like roll it onto their skin. But I found that I still had to like rub it in, so then my hands were still getting dirty, so I didn't feel like it was saving me anything but maybe I.
Speaker 1:I know I feel like I couldn't either, so I think I need more practice.
Speaker 1:If you guys have any tips and tricks on the solar buddy, please let me know. Oh, I want to read this one West of now and then said years later, this is gonna make me emotional. Years later you'll wish it was 10 times as long to be in that moment again. That makes me emotional because I think at the end of the day, when you're in the heat of a Disney trip and it's expensive, and you're thinking about how much money you've spent and you want to be able to get the most of your money and rent all these rides and do all the tips and tricks that people like us have shared with you and you know what I mean Check all these things off your list.
Speaker 1:It's easy to forget why are we here? Why are we here? And, truthfully, you're there to make memories with your family or your significant other or whatever, and it's obviously easy to forget that because we all forget that. But having that kind of perspective of like when you are out of this kid stage, you will miss it and you will look like even today. I was looking for looking through old Disney pictures and I was reminiscing of just a couple years ago and like, oh my gosh, remember when they were that age and let alone, I know, in 10, 20, 30 years yeah.
Speaker 1:And the same person West now and then said take a longer video of nothing special. So I think this goes with that one Take a longer video of nothing special. Just the kid and your spouse walking ahead. Those are some of my favorite videos of like any of them just being themselves, like not posing for the camera, but just them interacting and doing whatever.
Speaker 2:Yeah, at that stage of their life.
Speaker 1:Those are my favorite videos at home and abroad. You know what I mean At home and in Disney.
Speaker 2:We went to Disney when I was a little kid with our friends and we had a picture of my brother and I holding hands with our friend when we were kids and we just recreated that picture a couple years ago and I'm like we were just walking. We finally figured out we were in frontierland, but like it took us a while to figure out where we were. Like that wasn't really it didn't matter where we were. What we were doing is the fact that we were there together, that we were doing this and we were holding hands and it was cute, like that's just a moment in time right, exactly.
Speaker 2:Um so dfw disney dad said in my backpack I have everything in different ziploc bags so I can find it faster. Stop that meltdown fast exactly so ziplocs a, but again having things in separate bags ready to go yeah, yeah, it's a game.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and then Molly Burns, 615, also said air tags inside their shoes to track them down if they get lost. That was another one. So I know I mentioned that you can do it on the shoelaces. I also saw them where you can put it inside the sole of the shoe as well. So they got all kinds of different ones.
Speaker 1:Oh, the WOD squad said buy light up necklaces et cetera from the dollar tree before the trip.
Speaker 2:Yes, yes, yeah.
Speaker 1:Cause inevitably they're going to break and they have again. They always have light up necklaces and those are so expensive and guess what? They're not like way better made, I'll tell you that. Like maybe slightly better made than the dollar tree, but they're not. Those are not necklaces that are going to last a magical amount of time, they're just not same. Same goes for the bubble wands.
Speaker 2:On that same note, we have bought the battery pack lights and I think we had them when it was a christmas and maybe we've done it for halloween, yeah, but we just kind of string them through our stroller. That's so fun and we'll turn them on at night and we'll just kind of leave them strung through the stroller throughout the whole trip. That's such a fun little magical thing and you could do it.
Speaker 1:It doesn't even have to be halloween or christmas, like we should do it this next time just because and like we'll just get like white, twinkly it's their carriage in the evening.
Speaker 2:You know what I mean. Just that's a fun little thing to do for your kids at night. That's a little.
Speaker 1:Magical yeah Extra, and it makes your stroller easier to find. Yeah, yeah, you know, I mean especially at night when everything's looking dark. The Mickey ones I just bought for the cruise, those would be perfect.
Speaker 2:Yeah, just the one strand.
Speaker 1:It'd be so cute colors.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Anyhow, all right, wow Another hour about all the different things I mean, it was such a thing I'm like we didn't even talk about. Like you know, when it comes to, like, what to do with fireworks and what to do with like, where did you know? Oh, there's so many more things you can delve into. So, again, we will have this blog post. We might do another episode in the future of other things, but that blog post will be continuously updated. The link will be below. Once it's there, we should read a review, though. Oh, also, we forgot to do our mugshot. So mine today, by the way, is one of my favorites. It just says today is a good day for a good day, and then, jessica, we've shown yours a lot, but it just says it's a small world and it's got the little.
Speaker 1:I like the shape of it too.
Speaker 2:And if you have any tips or tricks that we did not mention we did not mention, please comment them down below so that way people can read them. All right, we always love to read a review, and this one here is from Disney Twin Mama. So it says Disney fans assemble. If you're looking for a cozy corner to laugh and talk about all things Disney, Jessica and Tyler are your people. I don't have many people who like to sit and talk Disney with me or even care to. My husband entertains it, but he's not here for it all the time. So tuning into this podcast fills my Disney coffee mug and helps those Disney blues. They're so positive, uplifting, welcoming and truly hysterical. I love going on my daily walks with the Disneyville fam and I always look forward to the next show.
Speaker 2:Thank you so much, I love that phrase of it fills my Disney coffee mug. I was about to say you just filled our disney coffee I love that. That's my favorite phrase that is so.
Speaker 1:That is amazing. Thank you so much. We love reading your guys's reviews um you can review us on apple podcast if you use that. I don't know that you can review on the other yeah, so if you have and use apple podcast, please leave us a review, um only if it's a positive one our egos can't handle it. I'm just kidding, please. We've gotten so much negative feedback through all our years on youtube.
Speaker 2:We can handle it um, also really quickly, we have our disneyville merch. If you saw my hat here, that's on our disneyville website. We've got our blog, we've got episodes, we've got everything that's all around.
Speaker 1:This is the longest.
Speaker 2:Well, no, I don't know our last one was on the disney treasure. I think that was almost two hours you're getting worse in our old age all right, I hope you guys enjoyed this one. Our next one though we've actually already planned it out it's going to be really fun. So it's going to be much shorter than this one, but it'll be a fun one.
Speaker 1:So it will be a fun one. This one's for everyone.
Speaker 2:Yes, hope you guys enjoyed this episode. Smash that like button, follow, subscribe and call me All right.
