We are back with all the Disney magic, whatever my usual. I just rehearsed it again in my head and I already forgot it. Where we talk about Disney Parks, Disney Cruise, and all the magic in between.

It's so funny. We were only gone for a few weeks while we were working on our new podcast setup here. And already there's so many things I've forgotten. Like I cannot believe I forgot I remembered my laptop today. I didn't even remember it for the podcast. I remembered it for something else. But like camera battery, I just happen to have like a lot of things.

We're out of, we're out of our usual, you know.

Our rhythm. Like the way that I had our our headphones set up in here. I'm like, wait, how did I even have this? It's only been a couple weeks.

All right. So this one, I don't know if I've shown this one because this is a relatively new one to our collection. So this one is of the monorail.

It says just along for the ride. And it's the same on both sides here, but it's it's just the monorail in front of the castle. And it's just, it kind of gives like a 70s vibe a little bit. It's it's I love it.

It's fantastic. Um and mine, I uh actually poured my coffee into you can see the lipstick underneath where I took a sip before I put the lid on. Uh, it's one of the like Disney resort mugs, you know, with the lid and everything. But then I just made iced coffee. But it's the purple one that was the hundred years of Disney, Disney, not the parks, but Disney. Um, and I just first of all, this is like one of my favorite colors of all time, but it's just so pretty.

They also, I think, just recently changed the resort mugs. And it's been a while since they had changed them. So I'm glad we're gonna have some new resort mugs.

And you know what? We thought through a lot. We wanted to have a table here behind between us, behind betwixt us, uh, so that you guys could still see our mugs. Listen, this is the kind of stuff I'm into. All right, all right. What are we talking about today?

Today’s Topic: Disney Between Trips

I know the things that we do in between Disney trips to help us pass the time.

Jessica 4:23

Keep that magic alive. These are things I think a lot of people that love the parks instinctively do without realizing what they're doing. Maybe you do. We, I mean, I remember like, you know, rewinding all the way back to when like you and I first went together 16 years ago. My gosh.

Yeah.

Jessica 4:42

I remember the little things. Like we would be like, hey, let's watch Disney planning DVDs from like 1993, because your mom had tons of them. Yeah. Now they're all on YouTube, by the way. Oh, yeah. They're all on YouTube. So, like that, that is one thing on our list. That's one example of things we would do just because we missed the parks. We couldn't wait to go back. It was going to be like another year or year and a half until our next trip. So what do you do?

Tyler 5:05

You could just get on there on Disney's website and get those sent to you. Used, and before that, you get the VHS's. But they used to even send out like these beautiful, huge maps, and we would just sit and look at the maps. So, like, even dating back to then, like, that's the kind of stuff we would do. So, we even asked you guys too. So, at the end, we'll see like what do you guys do to pass the time. And this is kind of the perfect time for us to do it because we have not been in almost a year, which for us is is is a long time.

So, just because of what we longer than our usual stretch, I guess, is and it's just the way the cookie crumbled.

Tyler 5:34

But yeah, so this is good kind of the perfect time.

Like, we are feeling that fever, baby. Oh, we've got it bad.

So let's delve in to the topic of the day.

All right. This list came to us uh so quickly. I this is the quickest prep we've ever had to do for a video because it was just so obvious. And I'm gonna be mad when we forget a few things. And I'm like, man, but I have a feeling some of you guys will say some of the things we maybe forget. So let's just start with that the Disney planning DVDs. So that was one of our like oldest things we used to do was exactly that. We would just watch them, and we still was it a few weeks ago, we popped on the 1990, I don't know, five Disney World Vacation Planning.

It was so good.

VHS. But it yeah, it was so fun

to watch because A, we saw things that are, I mean, so many things are just gone. Yeah. So it's fun to see what they look like then. Yeah. But also just you know how it is. The style of like, let's say the 90s, it's just so fun to reminisce. It's also cool to see things that we never got to see, but we've heard of. And I'm like, oh, they're marketing this because it's new right now, and it's crazy that it's so old that we never even got to see it type of thing. I'm like, it's just so fun. It's like a walk down memory lane, but some of them aren't even your own memories. Yeah.

Well, and one of the things we'll talk about here in a minute is Disney books, but sort of in that same vein. I'm reading a coffee table book right now from Disney World, but it was Disney World in 1986, and so it was like 15 years post-opening. Epcot was obviously already there.

Jessica 7:03

But the things they're like talking about Hollywood Studios wouldn't have been there yet, I think.

Tyler 7:07

So just just just Epcot and Magic Kingdom. And some of the stuff, obviously, a lot of it is still there, but a lot of it has changed and stuff like that, and just the kind of stuff that they were pushing back then. It was just like first of all, the photos are just amazing. Seeing people what they were wearing walking around is just so fast.

Jessica 7:24

I I could do that.

Tyler 7:25

For hours, I know but just the stuff that they were like, and it's it's interesting too what I think has gotten better, but also what's gotten worse over the years. Like I was I was telling you last night there was talk, they were talking about the um the world bazaar, whatever they call it in Adventureland. And it was like, you can get gifts from all over Asia and Africa and whatever, this, that, and the other in this area. And I was like, now I'm pretty sure it's a sunglass hut. So I'm like, you know, that's uh you might be right.

Jessica 7:52

It's uh you know which hey, sometimes you need sunglasses and you want nicer ones.

Tyler 7:55

Exactly. So it's you know, that kind of but anyway, it uh some things are better and some things are worse.

Jessica 7:59

Can we talk about how that's a sunglass hut and how the heck did they get that contract? Yeah, there's all kinds of stuff like that. But there's so few things like that in Disney. Yeah, few.

It makes sense though.

I mean it's no, it does, but still, Disney could have easily just I better not give them any ideas. Anyway, kidding. So connected to that, one thing we I mean, I do this all of the time. I think you do it. I hear it in your office a lot all the time, is Disney Ambiance. So even I mean, I watch it enough that Genevieve will be like, can we watch some and she never remember? I never even say right, I say ambiance. Um, she was like, Can we watch some Disney Ambiance? I'm like, Yes, you're the only kid your age that knows that word. Um, but you know, we'll watch it like at the holidays, they'll have like Christmas y ones of the castle. I mean, there's so many. But um, yeah, actually, our editors for this, they have an I don't even know if you know this, an ambiance channel. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah. Um if you're watching on YouTube, we can link it below. But um, and they've been doing exactly that and they're really, really cool. So just a little shout out for them because it's I just love that they're doing that.

And um the Disney blue screen. So you guys remember Disney doesn't even really do this anymore because now when you turn on the Disney TVs, now they have the it looks like your resort that you're staying in, and it is like, you know, they'll have like

the little things that are moving. It's almost more like the ambiance YouTube channels where it's just kind of like slightly moving things around.

Jessica 9:26

Or you'll see like Star Wars air planes, whatever, going across the screen randomly.

Tyler 9:33

Something like that. And so that's kind of more what they're doing now. They don't really do the blue screen unless maybe it's on a different channel.

Jessica 9:40

No, I feel like it's like a little bit blue just in the background, Nash. I don't know. Anyway, but they just have so many iterations.

Tyler 9:46

Blue channel on YouTube, and you're like, someone creates it.

Jessica 9:48

No, it's not Disney, someone creates it and it's like live all the time, and I think they update it every day because the hours are always right.

Tyler 9:54

That's what you're saying. It's crazy. The weather is right.

Jessica 9:56

The weather is right. I'm like, I guess it wouldn't be that crazy that they did that, but they always have viewers on it, and I I'll pop it on, and it's just playing like Disney music in the background that's fitting for it. So I that's one of my favorites, I will say. I'll just put that one up. But yeah, all those kinds of things are on YouTube for free.

Makes you feel like you are in your Disney resort. It's awesome. I love that.

Jessica 10:16

Also, I'm just remembering that our chairs swivel and this is pretty. I'm leaning back. This is this is rare. Okay. To add to that, there is a playlist, I'm sure there's many on YouTube, the areas of the Disney parks. And it's like everything, all the music. I mean, it's literally hundreds of videos long of like country bear jamboree area music, um, the show music for Little Mermaid, Cinderella Casa Castle Area Medley. That's my favorite. Um, I mean, literally, and it's just like you could tour and all the resorts of like Caribbean Beach Loop music, and it's all on this playlist that someone created from various YouTube channels. So, anyway, just search around, click around, you'd be amazed what you can find.

Well, we're in this era now where you can find all this stuff. I mean, it's amazing. Thinking about even back when we started going to Disney, this did not exist.

Jessica 11:02

Yeah, we were ordering VHSs or D activities in the mail to just watch.

Tyler 11:06

It's crazy that now we have these these options now. It's crazy. Well, and I mean, obviously, the other big one is Disney vlogs, which is the other big thing what we do is our Disney vlogs. And I've if you obviously we've been uploading our old ones to to our YouTube channel here. We're gonna have a lot more. But I mean, you watch a lot of Disney vlogs.

Jessica 11:26

Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Um, and you know what? If I'm being honest with myself, that is probably my number one thing I do between. And I didn't even think about that because it is just ingrained in my life. But I will say there are times where, like, you know, when you come back from a Disney trip and you, depending on how long it was, you might be like ready to be home. I'll usually have like a month period where I'm like not wanting to watch any Disney vlogs because I'm like, all right, I'm a little Disney Dow. And then of course, weeks go by and it crawl, you crawl right back, and that's when I start watching. But there's always little blips of time where I'm not, but otherwise, it's just a part of my life.

Tyler 12:01

Yeah, you don't even think about it. Well, because um, yeah, you do well, and you watch just a lot of YouTube in general, but a lot of Disney vloggers and vlogs and stuff like that. Yeah. So one thing you can do, and this is kind of what we did, is you can start a Disney podcast. Um that's what we did. So, but how that started was we and we've talked about this a lot, so I won't go into this, but we used to just like be in the car and we would like play Disney games, which is basically what we just do now, except we record it and hope someone listens. But but the things we would kind of do, we would obviously just sit and talk about Disney a lot, but we would also have these little games and stuff we would play. And so, like, if one of us was driving, especially on a road trip, we would like start to play a Disney song, and now it's fun because the girls will play too. Yeah, and we'll start to play it, and like the first person to be able to say like what movie it's from, or what if we it's we're like expert edition is like what land is this?

Jessica 12:52

Yeah, like we get on YouTube and be like, Okay, this is the adventure, this is the oasis area at Animal Kingdom.

Tyler 12:57

Yeah, exactly. And so those kind of games.

Jessica 12:59

Exactly, yeah. And so that's the kind of stuff. And then if if we're playing with the girls, then we can do just like the characters and stuff like that.

Yeah.

Um, and then we obviously have like Disney trivia games and stuff like that that we do.

Jessica 13:13

20 questions, just simply like what what character am I thinking of? What restaurant in Disney am I thinking of? Yeah, you know, again, you could get very niche and very expert level depending on who you're playing with, but those are things we do a lot.

Yeah, just in the car. Well, even just you know, driving 30 minutes down the road, we'll do it.

Jessica 13:28

Yeah, we will. I have to say, we, you know, this what month we took off between episodes so that we could get this studio done. Yeah. Um, and by the way, we did, did we mention that we did the vlog? There's

a before and after vlog that went live on this Disneyville YouTube channel um of the entire process. You can see the before, the after. Um, you should go check it out. Yeah. It was a fun one. But anyway, uh, what was I saying? Oh, in this hour off or our month, huh? In this month we took off, we I mean, I know I'll speak for myself. I really missed sitting and talking Disney. And so this is really what I'm I was so looking forward to today.

All right, extra, extra, read all about it. So one thing you can obviously do is read Disney books. And so literally right now, I am finishing up the imagineering story, which is that giant book back behind us there. Um, so I had read the first quite a bit of it, and then it is it is a beast of a book.

Yeah, I mean, how big it is from here.

Tyler 14:31

And I never actually finished that one, so I'm finishing it up right now. Um, and then I'm also reading um the book by Bob Weiss, which is called Dream Chasing. He was an Imagineer, and it is incredible. If you are like a Disney person, like there are just so many incredible Disney books right now. Joe Rhody's coming out with a book, I think, in September of this year. Did you just pre-order it? I already pre-ordered it.

I saw that in our Amazon orders. I was like, oh.

Tyler 14:55

Literally, I think it came out and like within 45 minutes I had it pre-ordered. Um, but I mean, these imagineers that are, you know, becoming celebrities in their own right are all like writing their own books. Marty Sklar's got several out. That's great.

As they get older for them to get all of these stories down before they're, I mean, as sad as it is, but before they're lost to time.

That's it. And there's just so many amazing stories out there. People that are just people that love Disney have written so many books. And we did a whole episode on this uh about Disney books that I talked about, some of my favorites. We can link that episode below. I've I'm I've almost finished that blog post. I mentioned in that episode I was gonna write a blog post. That blog post is almost ready, so that way you don't have to watch that whole episode if you just want to go to the blog post. But there's just so many books out there nowadays that you can just and if you're more like fun and fancy free like me.

I mean, I love to read, but I'm not as heavy into like the thicker, like deep dive histories of things. I it depends. It depends. But anyway, for me right now, I have been reading the secret stories of Walt Disney World. Um, there's another one that's really, really random that I don't think people know about. We mentioned in that that's like um forgotten, like basically remnants of former attractions that still exist in the world.

Is it the hidden history of Walt Disney World?

Jessica 16:09

Yeah, something like that. But it's literally remnants of, so it's all about basically abandoned stuff. It is awesome.

I think Kevin Yee, I think, is the one who wrote that one. Is that the one?

Jessica 16:16

Sounds right, I think. Um, but then also like the hidden magic of Disney, those they've got trivia versions that there's so much out there, but those to me are really fun to do before. I also like looking at the burn bombs Disney guidebooks before a trip. The girls love looking at those to be like, oh, are we gonna go to this? You know, or like, hey, this is a restaurant we're trying. Look at this picture, you know, whatever.

Yeah, it's just so fun. There's also a fantastic magazine called WDW magazine. Oh my gosh. They do such a good job. They have WDW magazine, Disneyland magazine, and now DCL magazine that just started.

Jessica 16:51

This is the most beautiful magazine they've ever seen.

Tyler 16:53

Such a good job. If you are a Disney fan, you need to be on their list. I mean, they they're these big, beautiful magazines they've got. They're glossy. I mean, they have the beautiful pictures, articles are well done. Yeah, I I don't know who these people are, but they do. The photos are unreal. It's job.

Yeah. Sorry, I keep cutting you off. I'm just as excited. You're right. They're so good. This is the only magazine worth paying for these days. I mean, really.

And so I think the the Disney World one, I think they

do like once a month. The Disney Cruise Line one, like I said, is new. And from what I was reading on their website, I think they're only doing it like once every six months.

Okay, like twice a year.

Tyler 17:28

And then I don't know, but we don't have the Disneyland one, but we do have the, so I don't know if they do that one monthly or not. But anyway, it's great. If you are a Disney fan, you should be getting that magazine. It's very good.

Jessica 17:36

Yeah. If you're this deep in and you're listening to our podcast, you can the magazine. I mean, I'm being serious. Because they'll do articles about like history. Like that's where I learned a lot of the things I became interested in. Um, like Disney history-wise, they'll do an article about that, like remember when, and it'll go a deep dive into a ride that's no longer there with pictures and you know, archival stuff. But then it'll be like, what are the best snacks right now at this festival? And it'll show pictures and what they thought, and then it'll be an interview with an imagineer. And then it's like, I mean, it's it's so well done. It is so well done. Or news coming up, you know.

And like you said, the photography is beautiful. It's it's it's great. And they think they say they do calendars too. Um, so it's great.

Jessica 18:15

Well, this is something we do very well. Hi, Faith. Uh buy a Disney mug and use it at home. Or your resort refillable mug as I am today. Seriously, that sprinkles a little Disney magic every single day into our lives. And my sister, who recently became obsessed with the Disney parks, and I've never felt so validated in my life than when they went and she came back and she was like, What is this feeling? So sudden and new. Um, but like seriously, she was like, What do you call this? Like this sadness when you get back from Disney. I'm like, oh honey, you're so screwed. You're in deep. So yeah, I think they've already gone back like once at least, and then they're planning it off. I'm like, oh my gosh, like they're getting it. Anyway, but she intentionally bought Disney mugs because she was like, they make me so happy that we drink out of them every morning. And she mentioned, because we obviously have a lot, and she was like, I love having coffee at your house because every day I don't know what kind of pixie dusted mug I'm gonna pick, but it's so fun to pick one.

Yeah, and so usually like you know, a month or two before our next trip, we'll get like our couple Disney mugs out, and it's always a different one, and then it's it just makes me so happy. But what we learned, and if we talked about this in some of our Disney vlogs, but I don't know if we've talked about it here, get your mug early on in your trip and use it during your trip.

We always used to get our Disney mugs like on one of our last days because I would always want to kind of look at all the options and then like I would pick it up on the last day. Just recently, I started getting my mug early on or as early as I could.

And then I would use it for my in-room coffee and stuff like that. So, you know, I'm sitting at Wilderness Lodge, I'm drinking my coffee out of my mug on the balcony in the morning. So now I've got that memory tied to it, and it makes it even more amazing. Like, and now every time I drink a coffee out of that mug, I'm like, ah, Wilderness Lodge.

Jessica 20:07

Yeah. There's one we have that I remember doing at like the Riviera, and I've just got that, it just makes me happy. And I think it was a trip that like my mom was with us, maybe. And anyway, yeah, so fun.

So there's a little tip for you.

Oh, well, on that vein, thinking of like food and beverage, eating popcorn out of our popcorn buckets. We are not the biggest popcorn family, I wouldn't say. Let me let me rephrase. I love popcorn as a snack.

But I don't necessarily love park popcorn. It's too a little too salty, it makes my mouth hurt. You know what I mean. And so we'll get it from time to time, but every once in a while we'll get a

Vlogs, Games, And Trivia In The Car

Jessica 20:40

bucket because we're like, that popcorn bucket is amazing. And then you can refill. But what changes my mind is like the maple popcorn they have in the near the Canada Pavilion in Epcot, things like that that you can use the refill for. But we have some of those buckets, and we've also gotten some on the cruise lines too, because sometimes they'll have really cool ones. And it's so fun to do a movie night at home with the kids or not, yeah, but with the kids if you have them, and have the popcorn in there. It's just so yeah.

We'll do some little thing of air pop popcorn and everybody gets their own bucket and we'll just, you know, eat our yeah.

Jessica 21:11

It's just makes sense. We need to do that soon. Yeah. Now that we're talking about it, I'm like, oh.

Um, so another thing, watch Disney documentaries. We are in a golden age of Disney documentaries with Disney Plus. There is Behind the Attraction, there is we call it Imagineering, there is the uh what's that new one we just watched? Um Disneyland handcrafted. There is the imagineering story. There is there are so many out right now. Go watch them, but they're all great. Yeah. Not a bad one in the bunch.

Jessica 21:42

But yeah, the new one, Disneyland Handcrafted, we'd had on our list because we had heard Oh my gosh. It was there was so much footage I had never I'm like, how do they have all of this footage? Well, and that's and how have they not shared all of this?

Tyler 21:54

Well, and it's so cool because so Leslie IWorks is the one who did this, and that's kind of what it's At the beginning, like there was so much footage that was just sitting there, and so it was a lot of it was in black and white, but they took the time and they they colorized it and they made it. I'm like, it is it is fascinating. Like we sat there, and I mean you just we were just like we I could we could watch it.

I've got the goosebumps even talking about it. The funniest thing is though, watching them build because it's all about Disneyland, watching them build it in such a short amount of time. We were like, OSHA, if it existed back then, would have had a field day. These men in just like shorts, no shirt, smoking a cigarette up in a crane, not hooked into anything. I'm like just diving down below to try to put something in with no gear. I'm like, it's crazy to watch.

And so they it didn't have sound. I don't know, maybe, but either way. And so it's just it's just fascinating to watch. Fascinating to get it just and they'll get like up close and like watch somebody paint, or they'll I mean it's like parts of the castle that are still there.

I want to say it was Cinderella's royal table, and you wanted help because you I'll have to show it to you. We need to respond because I just I just got it like last night. But um, it was basically like help. Like we have a we want to go to Cinderella's royal table really badly, but the only reservation we could get was 9 p.m., which with our kid, that's way too late, which of course. Um, they were like, any ideas? And I'm like, oh man, like and I do, I've got some ideas, but I'm like, man, like this is one of those things that a travel agent would literally just they would eventually get it for you. Yeah. Like you would just in, yeah.

Or if you're like debating between a couple of restaurants, or if you are, you know, you're like, oh, I need to call and add a dining plan, but you don't want to spend an hour on the phone. You know, that's what you're you know, anyway. So that's those are the kind of things that your travel agent can do. So you can still be a part of the planning if you want to be. Yeah, or if you don't have the time, then you don't have to. So it's kind of you could you, you choose your own adventure kind of thing.

I mean, you'll see they, and of course, they have the Joffrey stands. I know a lot of you guys already know all this. Yeah, you can order that coffee, ground and whole bean, on their website to be delivered to your house. And we love that. And sometimes we'll do like if we know we have a reservation at like um where did we have was it not flying fish, but somewhere? And we knew they made that coffee there. So we like ordered the beans and enjoyed it, you know. So I'm like, it's just such a fun way to enjoy something you're maybe drinking every single day, but give it a little Disney flair.

And it also makes too. Because like we'll order like as a gift for like my mom, we'll order Joffrey's coffee for her. So if you have a Disney fan in your life as well, it makes an awesome gift too. Like they sell like boxes you can get, like, you know, three. Boom.

But a lot of times it's just their, you know, whatever, whatever. Yeah. But you can get that there and bring that home. We've gotten the tea for I think your brother years ago. Um, you could get twining's tea from the UK pavilion and drink that at home. Make you think of Disney, you know?

Um, this is a big one. We haven't done this in a while. We should we should do this again. Uh Disney scents. There's all kinds of places that do this, but you can get wax melts, you can get candles, you can get diffusers that are they have all the Disney smells from like hotel lobbies, ride scents.

Uh, yeah, like anything smell you smell on foreign or yeah. Pirate water or I know they have that one in Disney Springs that we got some from recently, and that was pretty good. Um, we also like like Magic Candle Company, those kinds of companies that this is what they do, yeah, and it's what they do really well. I was saying we need to get like a magic candle coat and stick it back there.

I uh I used to get the Grand Floridian one all the time and have it in my office. I have not done that in a while. But that was my favorite scent, was the Grand Floridian. And I think it was the Grand Floridian, and it had like it was a couple different lobbies that had that same smell, but I would oh my office always smelled so good.

Also, one thing, we we posted it on our Disneyville Instagram page, but the we have like a countdown. So like if you have a trip coming up soon, having a countdown really helps. We've done all different kinds, like you know, the rip off the paper, whatever. The one we have right now, we blew up a bunch of balloons and stuck them to the wall. And the girls have been popping one balloon a day. And we got it like it looks yeah, house, but the house is the Disney castle. We'll put a picture up so you can kind of see what it looks like.

But um, yeah, Disney on ice. Definitely. We went recently, we hadn't been in years, took the girls, it was so much fun, but it definitely gave those like Disney vibes. And did you know? I learned that the people walking around selling the cotton candy with the like stitch hats and all that, they travel with Oh, really? Disney on ice. I assume they are. Disney, if you will, cast members. I don't know if you call them that, but they travel with it. I thought that was so interesting.
